We care about pollinators and biodiversity in our town. Three mason bee houses already stand in Rawicz, and more locations are planned.
What mason bees are
Mason bees are wild, solitary bees — different from the honey bees everybody knows. They do not form hives or colonies, they produce no honey and they practically never sting. They are, however, exceptionally effective pollinators: a single mason bee pollinates as many plants as several hundred honey bees.
Why we work with them
Because the world of bees does not end with the honey bee — and it is the wild pollinators that are disappearing fastest from our towns. Bee houses protect biodiversity and, at the same time, give us a reason to talk with residents about what lives around us.
Bee houses in Rawicz
Three mason bee houses currently operate in Rawicz. We look after them throughout the season: cleaning the tubes, replacing damaged parts and observing how they are occupied.
Exact locations of the houses and photos — to be completed.
Plans
We want to create more sites — next to schools, public institutions and in green spaces, always in agreement with whoever manages the land and with a sign explaining why the house is standing there.
Fund a bee house or support the programme
You can finance the construction and maintenance of a single house or support the programme in another way — with materials, by making land available or by helping with the installation. Write to us and we will work out the details.
